Saturday was the Fourth of July, and since they don't usually work Saturdays, Isaac and the rest of the guys at the temple got Friday off as a holiday. We spent the morning hiking up to the big A near their house. Colorado State University is in Fort Collins, and apparently they used be called the Aggies before their mascot was changed to the Rams. The A on the hillside is left over from their Aggies days. It was a four-mile hike round-trip, but everyone hung in there really well - even Piper made the trip!
Prairie dogs along the path.
The hill butts up to Horsetooth Reservoir, so the view from the top is beautiful!
Adelina just couldn't make it to the top. She woke up on the way down, too, so we figured she probably saw the exact same stretch of the trail.
That night, Kyler and I went to an archery range, where I showed off my Katniss skills. Look at that bullseye! That is legit. Fired from my own bow, 50 feet from the target. Just to be clear.
On the Fourth of July, we went downtown Fort Collins for their parade. I'm going to be honest, I thought the parade was kind of lame. There were far too few entertaining acts. If I wanted to see people walking down the street, I would just go to any street corner during the day. I expect more from a parade, you know? The best acts by far were the baton twirlers and a couple of bands. Pretty much everyone else was boring.
But goodness look at this scenery!
Dominika's favorite holiday is the Fourth of July, so she's all about getting decked out. Holden was in appropriate colors, too, but he refused to be in the photo.
Those headbands! That skirt! Too much.
After the parade, we headed home to hang out and nap. The neighbors across the street were having a party so we went over there for a bit. That night we went back downtown for fireworks. Happy Independence Day!
As I was getting ready for church the next day, Dominika came into the bathroom and said, in a very disapproving tone, "Oh. You're wearing yellow?" Apparently I hadn't gotten the teal/black memo. Don't worry - I changed immediately.
The family that coordinates dominates, or so they say.
That evening I went down to Loveland to visit Elder and Sister Rawson, who are an older couple who served in my mission at the same time as me. They're fabulous and it was fun to see them. I ate dinner with them, which Sister Rawson couldn't stop thanking me for. She was trying a new recipe for veggie lasagna and she wasn't sure it'd be good, so she thanked me about four times for trying it for her. Every single thing I have ever eaten made by that woman has been nothing short of amazing so the idea that she would be worried about trying something new made me laugh. She's wonderful. After that, I went to play games with Zack and Alanna Hutchins- friends of Dominika's who invited me over for dessert and games.
My mom flew in late that night, which was fun. I left the next morning, but it was fun to overlap for about twelve hours.
I left the next morning and drove down to southern Utah to see my cousin Melissa and her family. The Colorado part of the drive was beautiful!
