Utah/San Francisco Part 1: Utah and Driving

My school has Spring Break for two weeks, and I think I've mentioned before that it is my personal belief that having two weeks off and not traveling is shameful. So this time it was off to California via Utah!

Very early in the morning, Isaac drove me to the airport and I set off. My first flight to Dallas was delayed because of some mechanical problems, so I was pretty stressed out by the time we landed - I would have about fifteen minutes before my next flight was supposed to take off. Fortunately, my second flight was also delayed so I made it. I still went straight from one plane to the next, but I made it and had enough time for a bathroom break at least. No food, though, so by the time I landed in Utah I was starving!

My aunt and uncle JaNel and Paul picked me up from the airport with their kids and we headed to lunch with Jared, VoNique, and VeNicia and her boys. It was miraculous that Paul and Jared had just happened to take the day off that day so I got to see all of them! I loved it!

That afternoon, I hung out with my friend Jake in Provo. He took me over to the City Center temple to see the progress - I can't believe how far it's come! It's going to be gorgeous!

I went to dinner and institute with Jake then he took me to my friend Angela's house. It was so fun to hang out with her and stay in her brand new guest room. :) You know those friends who you just feel like you connect with on a soul-level? She's one of those. I love her dearly.

The next morning Angela took me up to Draper with her (she works in Draper) and Jaime came to pick me up there. We had a little bit of extra time before Jaime came so we stopped by Chick-fil-a to get chicken biscuits. It was delicious. So good, in fact, that I thought about it all week and got one in the airport when I landed in Indy on my way home and that one was not nearly as delicious. Disappointing.

Jaime and I set out and drove straight through to San Francisco that day - about twelve hours. It really didn't feel that long, though, since we always have plenty to talk about. We drove by the Salt Flats again (we just went there in October) and I was excited to see them dry, since they'd been covered with water the last time. They are simply stunning.

Jaime had just shown me some incredible pictures of her friend at the Salt Flats. She's apparently a yoga master and had sunrise pictures of herself at the flats in these cool yoga poses. Naturally, I replicated them. I'm no yogi, but I'm fairly confident I'm doing this exactly right. What you don't see here are the countless pictures Jaime took of me trying to do a handstand when really I was only about two feet off the ground. This picture was the best I got and I immediately collapsed on the ground. Handstands are no joke, my friends.

There are a lot of bugs between Salt Lake City and San Francisco. About half of them ended their mortal journey on our windshield.

Backstory: Jaime and I have gone on a New Year's trip the past two years. On both of these trips, we have watched HGTV unveil their Dream Home of the year. The first year we watched, the house was in Truckee, California so when I realized we would be driving through, I decided we needed to stop. Truckee is a cute ski town, but almost everything was closed. On a Thursday evening. You don't make much money when you're closed, FYI.

We found a pizza place, though, and had a calzone while I watched some March Madness and Jaime felt miserable (she was sick that day). Fun times!

We rolled into San Fran late that night and went straight to our hotel. We came in from the north side so we crossed the Golden Gate Bridge on our way in. It was super foggy, though, so we couldn't see it until we were actually on it. It was kinda creepy to all of a sudden see this giant tower looming over you. I couldn't believe how tall it was!
