New England Days 16: Kirtland

The next day we headed down through New York, through Pennsylvania, into Ohio. Here's our brief shot of Lake Erie, from Erie Pennsylvania. Gorgeous, huh?

Kirtland, Ohio was one of the first church centers. The early Saints built their first temple there, but had to abandon it quickly after persecution drove them out of the area.

The temple is no owned by Community of Christ, and they'd kept a lot of original features of the temple.

We then headed over to the LDS Church's restored Kirtland sites. The Newel K. Whitney store was a center of Kirtland social and spiritual life. Several very important revelations were received in that store, and I felt the Spirit really strongly there. The Whitney family was an incredible example of faith and dedication.
