November 2016
My birthday has long been my favorite holiday because I love attention and I love surprises! A little self-centered maybe?
For my birthday, Brandon planned a weekend trip to Louisville. We lucked out big time with some incredible weather. I took the day off Friday and went to work with him. He was working on a house for my dad at Harrison Lake, near Columbus, so I brought a book and read lakeside in the 75-degree sunshine. I always wanted to know what it was like to have a summer birthday. Turns out it's pretty nice. :)
Our hotel was actually in Jeffersonville, Indiana - across the river from Louisville with a great view of the skyline. Friday night, we walked across the bridge (have I mentioned how much I love bridges?) and explored the city a bit. We'd gone to Louisville on our first ever day-date back in February, so it was fun to see the city again but in warmer weather.
We walked back across the bridge and had dinner at a restaurant on the Indiana side. Because it was so nice, they had their patio open so we enjoyed dinner with a gorgeous view of the skyline - all without even a jacket. UNREAL.
The next day was a bit colder, but we were inside most of the day. We got up and had brunch at the historic Brown Hotel - home of the original Kentucky Hot Brown, which was pretty delicious! Then we explored the beautiful, old hotel while making plans to come back and stay there.
They had informational plaques up throughout the hotel, which I loved reading. If there was a time in history I could go back to experience, I think it would be the 20s or the 40s - the music, the dancing, the styles, the fancy buildings...and the Brown was the center of all of that in both decades - the Hot Brown was created in 1926 to offer dancers and revelers something hearty to eat late at night after they'd worked up an appetite.
Then we drove through the historic neighborhoods and I dreamed about living in a Victorian home in a beautiful urban neighborhood.
We had planned to see a movie, but I really only cared about the popcorn, so we went to the theater, got the popcorn, and watched Thomas' football game in our hotel room. We got hungry, so we ordered room service. Because when it's your birthday, you do what you want.
The next day was my actual birthday so I woke up to a sweet video call from Adelina and we drove home, stopping for church along the way.
