Hawaii Part 4: Lai'e Temple, Lai'e Point, Byodo-In Temple, Haleiwa, Sunset Beach

Sunday morning started at the temple in Lai'e. It was especially hot that day, so we hid inside the visitors center for a while, then walked around the temple grounds. It's a beautiful place! While in the visitors center, I asked the sister missionaries if they knew my brother Thomas, and one of them did! He had just recently served in that area. It was fun to walk around the places that he mentioned in his emails.

We went to church, then went out the Lai'e point, which is a popular fishing spot. We talked about going cliff-jumping there later in the week but never made it back.

The terrain is a bit treacherous out by the water! Those points in the rock were sharp!

We went back to Megan's house and Johnny made us some traditional Fijian curry with roti, which is similar to tortillas. It was delicious!

The rest of the time we were in Hawai'i, we stayed with my roommate Carrie's friend Manny. He has a great condo in Kaaawa with an extra room and he very generously put us up for a few nights. On our way in the first night, we passed this squishy little guy. The creatures in Hawai'i are big and gross.

The next day was pretty rainy, so we decided to visit the Byodo-In temple and see a movie in Kailua. The misty rain made this Japanese-inspired temple so dreamy!

Chickens run wild in Hawai'i, I guess because there aren't any large predators to endanger them. These beauties were showing off on the grounds of the temple.

The next day was a little nicer, so we headed over to Haleiwa, where we went paddleboarding and got shaved ice. We found another lizard friend, but this guy was super tiny! He looked like an insect!

While in Haleiwa, we walked through some of the shops and had lunch. On the way back, we stopped at a beach known for having sea turtles, but we didn't see any while we were there.

We stopped at the Pipeline again on the way back and enjoyed another stunning sunset.
