7.12.2012

Since we'd gone to bed early, we got an early start Thursday morning, because it was our heaviest travel day. We didn't get as far as we'd wanted the day before, and we had to make it to northern New York that day so that meant about twelve hours of driving.

This was also our biggest day as far as states go. We hit six states that day, four within an hour of each other. We missed a lot of state signs, so this picture of us in the car will have to represent our time in each state that we don't have a sign for. (Don't worry, Jaime's not actually looking at the camera while driving. Tricky sunglasses.)

We stopped in Winchester, Virginia for lunch, and loved the historic downtown pedestrian walkway. We ate lunch on the terrace and admired the courthouse. It's cool to be in a part of the country that has so much history. As a state, Utah is fairly young, so we both enjoyed visiting these places that have ties all the way back to before the Revolutionary War.

Maryland. This was part of our four states in an hour. We went from Virginia to West Virginia to Maryland to Pennsylvania in less than sixty minutes. The camera and I couldn't keep up.

This dam in Pennsylvania was definitely shamokin' hot. :)

After our state spree, we landed in Pennsylvania for a few hours. This was my favorite state, I think. It's beautiful. There are trees and water everywhere, everything is so green, the towns are adorable. I just loved it. All of it. I want to live in Pennsylvania.

We got to drive along the Susquehanna River for a little while, which was cool because on the banks of this river in Harmony, Pennsylvania was where Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery received the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthoods and were baptized.

We stopped in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, which turned out to be a really cool town with some fabulous architecture.

Williamsport once had the largest number of millionairs per-capita than anywhere else in the world. There's a street there called Millionaires Row that is home to lots of gorgeous mansions, some of which have been restored to their natural glory.

I would love to live in a house like this someday. They're so just so cool and have so much personality.

This one's a church.

This was just a really neat town. I was sad that we'd gotten there so late because if we'd been there during the day, we could've gone on a trolley tour that goes around the city and on the river.

Murals in the city.

That night we finally made it to New York. We drove by a lake for about seventeen miles I think, which made me so sad because it was too dark to see it. I love bodies of water. We also drove through another town in New York that had some pretty amazing mansions. Fortunately, they all had lights on so we could see them. I love the East. And the South. I love our whole country. There are so many cool things to see.
